Nowadays we can see that the second of the three big game console makers declare its new next generation video games platform. At its early E3 press convention, Sony Computer Entertainment presented the world its opening look at the new Sony Playstation 3, as the console it is now publicly called. Although the price of the device has not officially been set, its probable release window will be in spring 2006. Edged by the president of Sony Computer Entertainment America along with CEO Kaz Hirai, the president of Sony Computer Entertainment, Ken Kutaragi launched it as a new supercomputer for the world of computer entertainment.
Furthermore, the name was not surprising, since Sony Computer Entertainment had been running a wide-ranging teaser ad promotion prepping the world for the Sony Playstation 3. The corporation had laid an extensive display of posters in the region of the Los Angeles Convention Center, which is the official site of the E3 expo. Billboards and bus stalls around the Los Angeles Convention Center announced as "Prepare for Chang3" in the unique Playstation 3 font with limited shots of its famous Dual Shock controller's which is square, circle, triangle and cross buttons.
The new Sony Playstation 3 is exposed with lots of fanfare as well as tech demonstrations.
Sony Computer Entertainment also confirmed the new Sony Playstation 3 will be using Blu-Ray discs as its default media format. Moreover, the Blu-Ray discs can keep up to 6 times of data as much as its current generation DVDs. What is more, Sony Playstation 3 will also support DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD-ROM, DVD, CD-RW and CR-ROM formats. Sony Computer Entertainment also declared that the Playstation 3 will be having a feature of backward capability which is well-matched all the way to its first original Playstation One. It will also include a compact flash memory slot, an SD slot, and the slots for its new Memory Stick Duo. Sony Playstation 3 will also include a slot for a separable 2.5 inches Hard Disk Drive, which is similar to the Microsoft Xbox 360's. Sony Computer Entertainment did not mention if its detachable Hard Disk Drive would be standard.
Sony Computer Entertainment also laid out its technical specifications of the Sony Playstation 3. Moreover, the Sony Playstation 3 will be equipped with its unique Cell processor, which is capable to run at 3.2 Gigahertz, giving the Sony Playstation 3 system 2 teraflops of overall performance. The game console will sport 256 Megabytes XDR main RAM which is capable to run at 3.2GHz, and also the console will have 256 Megabytes of GDDR VRAM which has the speed of 700MHz.
Sony Computer Entertainment also revealed with its new graphics chip which is known as the Reality Synthesizer (RSX). The synthesizer is using the Nvidia technology. The GPU of Sony Playstation 3 will be able to produce 1080p resolution and 128bit pixel precision which is recognized as one of the highest resolution around for HD. The Reality Synthesizer also has 512 Megabytes of graphics rendering memory and it is capable of producing 100 billion shader operations along with fifty-one billion dot products every second. Moreover, the Reality Synthesizer (RSX) has at least has 300 million transistors, larger than any game console processor that is available today. The processor will be manufactured using the 90 nanometers process, with eight metal layers. The Reality Synthesizer is greater than two units of Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra video cards.
